Campus Rail Jam Tour 2010

College kids are always finding ways to not actually study. Here’s the latest way they’re procrastinating: The Campus Rail Jam, a touring competition that scores freeskiers on urban jibs located on college campuses. The tour is hitting the road for their 2010 West Coast competition. Next stop: University of Colorado.

Throw on that toga, and head to the quad for the biggest party of the year: The 2010 Campus Rail Jam Tour is heading your way. This grassroots movement is hitting up college campuses along the West Coast to pay tribute to all that is snow, hauling in some white gold to colleges to throw down big tricks.

Amateur and semi-pro riders are judged by local pros and celebs on their rail performance during a 45-minute jam session. This marks the third season of the tour which began on the campus of Oregon State University. It’s no surprise the reigning champion for the last two years, Collin Wright, is an Oregon native. For the women, Catherine Warchall from Salt Lake City, Utah, is expected to defend her reign as rail champion.

“People need to get creative, especially when it comes to taking down Wright,” says Rail Jam marketing director Dan Genco. “Some guys charge as many runs as they can in 45 minutes while others take a few solid runs. Whatever approach, it comes down to who is trying something new and creative. And the beer garden is out of control.” Wright is expected to turn out to claim his third victory and I guess it wouldn’t be a college party without a few kegs of liquid courage.

Next stop is the University of Colorado on March 4. After that the crew will be sliding through Idaho, Washington, Nevada, California, and Oregon. Top finishers from each event will have the chance to compete in the finals on May 28 in Portland, Oregon for their shot at a chunk of the five grand in prize money.
