Dear Skiing magazine,
I couldn't even make it up my driveway before I had to tear this month's issue open (November). I was so looking forward to seeing my favorite bar finally celebrated for all of its glory. How could you have left The Shed out of your Ski-Town Bars article??!?!?! They brew the most amazing Mountain Ale which is the perfect end to a powder day. Yesterday I hiked Mansfield in eager anticipation for this upcoming season and despite the lack of snow, I still visited The Shed after running down Nosedive. I know the article is done and published, but please keep this amazing ski bar in mind the next time you've got a skiier at Stowe!
Happy Wednesday Meg,
I'm not a long-time reader of Skiing, but its been more than a few years now and I can attest to how far the mag has come. It's miles above where it was three short seasons ago. With that said, I noticed some grave errors and omissions. First, without having ever stepped foot in the Canyon Inn (Cougars), I can assure you that its at the bottom of Big Cottonwood Canyon (next to the Porcupine), not Little. You also listed O' Shucks in Park City as a dive bar. If there were ever any dive bars in PC, they've all been chased away by the gelatinous gentrification that mars the high country of today. Park City sucks, but don't tell skiers that. The cottonwoods are crowded enough as it is. The grave omission I mentioned is Skiing's failure to list the Tram Club @ Snowbird in the article. The TC is the heart of LCC. If you don't believe me, step foot inside and check out the tram wheels visible through the plexiglass wall. Those are the left and right ventricle of the heart that pumps skiers (the blood) 3,000 feet to the top of Hidden Peak. Where else can you get a shot and a beer for $5 at a ski resort? Riddle me THAT! Good stuff though. Keep up your noble work.
ps - I'm a snowboarder that skis a little, but snow porn is snow porn and I'll take it any way I can get it!
Regarding your article on 34 reasons to drink in a ski town. There is another Foggy Goggle at a little known NH ski area, Tenney. And I'm sure there are many others.
