Twilight Zone
After a winter with as little as six hours of sunlight a day, northern Sweden receives about 16 hours by mid-April, when this shot was taken. “This day was pretty weird. It was bluebird until 5 p.m., but then clouds moved in and we had to shut down our session. Then around 8 p.m. a few holes opened in the cloud layer,” says photographer Mattias Fredriksson, who captured this image in his hometown of Åre, Sweden. Fredriksson set up an off-camera strobe to paint light on Åre local Henrik Harlaut, 17, seen here throwing a switch 540 mute for the Norwegian film company Field Productions.
