Skiing's Green All Stars
Greenest Ski Resort: Grand Targhee, Wyoming
Instead of continuing to spend $20,000 a year to offset its CO2 emissions, Wyoming’s Grand Targhee decided to use that money to significantly reduce its emissions. The resort hired environmental consultants and underwent an exhaustive process to quantify the damage done by every weed whacker, refrigerator, and chairlift. And they came up with the number: 2,958 metric tons of CO2 a year. Now Targhee is working to drop that by retrofitting buildings, upgrading transportation and recycling programs, and constructing a greenhouse to grow veggies for the resort restaurants. grandtarghee.com
