Swiss Summer Powder Stash

posted: 08/14/2000

JUNGFRAUJOCH, SWITZERLAND, July 2000--The conditions couldn't have been better. Two weeks before arriving in the central Swiss Alps enough snow covered the Alps to close down several of the country's mountain roads. When the skies cleared on the day I ventured into the land of the Jungfrau I knew fresh snow awaited high above the river rafters and ice cream cones in the lower altitudes of Switzerland's summer.

After taking three trains and passing several charming Swiss villages I reached the summit and the highest train station in Europe. Not long after arriving I was renting boots too big and skis too short, but that didn't matter. What mattered was that I was making refreshing turns in July.
