Aspen/Snowmass, Colo, Dec. 16, 2004 - No lift lines, no crowds, just the exhilaration of skiing some of the Rocky Mountains' finest powder snow in a spectacular setting. Take a guided snowcat ski/snowboard tour to explore a part of Aspen Mountain unseen and untouched by all but a handful of skiers/riders.
Your day begins at 8:15 a.m. in the lower level of the Silver Queen Gondola Building at the base of Aspen Mountain. After a short gondola ride to the summit, Powder Tour groups are given an orientation with guides before heading out into the backcountry. Two guides and a driver lead your 11-person snowcat group to terrain selected according to daily snow conditions and the group's experience.
A hearty lunch is served in a cozy wood-stove heated cabin set in the heart of the picturesque Elk Mountains. Snacks and drinks are provided on board the cat throughout the day.
"I was out with a group the other day and all of a sudden it hit me, I've been at this for twenty years and I love it as much as I did on that first day, or maybe even more, said Bob Perlmutter, Manager of Powder Tours. "I'm pretty sure our guests pick up on that and feed off of it.
