Name: Jason Gilliam
Location: Marysville, MT (pop. 80)
Claim to Fame: What does a top-of-his-class, quadruple-major, college weight-lifting champion do after graduation? If he's Jason Gilliam, he buys the Marysville House bar and grill in western Montana, and puts out the welcome mat. Folks feel so at home at Marysville House, in fact, that "one guy decided to push his Harley up to the bar and do a burnout, says Gilliam. "And a local rancher rode his horse through the bar.
Young Gun: Gilliam started bartending at Marysville House (formerly a train depot) while enrolled at Carroll College, a Catholic school in Helena, 20 minutes away. After the previous Marysville House owner passed away in 2002, Gilliam bought the place. "I learn fast, he says. "If customers get unruly, I just give them more to drink.
The best little ski bar in Marysville: In the early 1800s, Marysville mines yielded more than $50 million in gold. These days, the biggest attraction is the Great Divide ski area, with its five double chairs. A snowboarder since age 14, Gilliam fits right in with the après crowd. But he doesn't mind when National Guard and Special Forces troops from the Fort Harrison Army Base drop by and get rowdy. And he'll gladly let you drink from the "shot ski—an old Fischer jumping ski with seven shot glasses attached to the top sheet. (You and your friends count to three and tip it back.) Try it with his Liquid Viagra, a blend of Southern Comfort, Amaretto, blackberry brandy, butterscotch schnapps, Malibu rum, sweet and sour, 7-Up, and cranberry juice. It might not do much for your libido, but, Gilliam promises, "It'll get you wasted in a hurry.
What's up with all the bras?: Three years ago, a friend of Gilliam's found a bra on the floor. "He threw it up into the antler rack above the bar, says Gilliam, "and the tradition started. Gilliam estimates about 100 bras go up per year, with seven as the nightly record. "One woman takes hers off, and they all do, he says. "There's some pretty big ones, every color and size you can imagine, and they always want them back. But once they get hung up, they don't come down.
