In August, photographer Grant Gunderson took this shot of a shocked Pep Fujas in Portillo, Chile, during Skiing’s South American Photo Challenge. To get the streaked time-lapse stars, Gunderson used a four-hour overnight exposure, checking on the camera every few minutes to make sure the lens didn’t fog and the battery didn’t die—the same technique he used for Skiing’s September 2008 cover shot. “This is actually pretty basic photography as long as you pay attention to details,” Gunderson says.
