Living Here:PC is the black sheep of the Beehive State: Downtown mixes nationally-known art galleries and gourmet dining with year-round nightlife. World-famous shindigs like the Sundance Film Festival and the Utah Jazz Festival make their homes here. And affordable town homes in the Kimball Junction area make it possible to stay close to the action—while an extensive network of bike trails keeps all parts of the city connected. "There are affordable places here, says Jeret Peterson, 22, a member of the U.S. Freestyle Team who last summer built a house on the outskirts of town. "My neighbor is a bartender and he owns his house. You tend to make a little more here because of the cost of living. If you find it hard to stay afloat, a six-lane highway gets you to Salt Lake City in 20 or 30 minutes—and never closes due to snow. In fact, a big chunk of Park City and Summit County's residents, about 4,500 of them, commute to SLC.

Working Here: The ski resorts and local government are tops in Utah's Summit County, but Triumph Gear Systems, which makes parts for aircraft and military vehicles, employs 200 people.

Leaving Here: Salt Lake International Airport is 40 minutes away, with direct flights to Boston and Washington D.C. ($400), Denver and San Francisco ($250), and everywhere in between.

Being Here: Plan your vacation for late January, when Sun-dance interrupts PC's easy living with traffic, long waiting lists at restaurants, and Ashton Kutcher.
