SKIING Scene: Bargain

Imagine buying a season pass you hope not to use. Ten dollars per person ($5 for kids under 12) buys unlimited ambulance rides from Aspen's four ski areas to Aspen Valley Hospital's emergency room. Patrollers call the service only for non-life-threatening injuries, since Aspen Emergency Services drivers may be on the slopes. "We have a pretty big following with local families," according to AES's Hein Brutsaert. "Some local kids are frequent flyers." At least they have a low cost-per-run average.
