If you're short on days off-and want to maximize time on-snow-the best way to visit the Alps is the single-resort vacation. Aside from finding a cheap airline ticket (see "Travel Tips"), the trick is flying to a megaresort with enough terrain to hold your interest for weeks, if not years. Enter the big three: France's Chamonix, a short hop from the international airport at Geneva; Italy's Alagna/Monte-rosa, near Milan; and Austria's St. Anton/ Arlberg, on the express-train line from Zurich.
