Krakatoa it wasn't, but a "swarm" of 1,600 deep micro-earthquakes last year gave Nevada's Mt. Rose resort a little leg up on the competition. Molten rock shifting 20 miles beneath the Sierra Nevada range raised Mt. Rose an estimated 8 mm - about three-eights of an inch - say scientists from the Nevada Seismological Laboratory. Already boasting Tahoe's highest base elevation (7,900 feet), and a saucy selection of double-black-diamond chutes, Mt. Rose doesn't plan to gloat.
