WHICH ONES????
Hi, I am 5'6" and 110 pounds. I am an expert skiier and do a good amount of eastern skiing in Upstate NY and go out west to Alta/Vail for a couple weeks a year. Although I am an expert skiier I have never bought skis before. After a pretty good search it appears that the skis for me would be the Blizzard 7.6 iQs. I wanted some feedback on if these skis would fit the following categories: Eastern crud, Western pow and backcountry ability. Although these are extremely wide requirements I think these skis are pretty good for the job. Also if I would like to keep these skis for 2 or three years, what length skis would be a good size for me.
Thanks so much, I look forward to some great feedback.
Hey Spanitz,
Tall order Dude! Probably your best bet is to demo the skiis both out east & west. I learned to ski in the east at Hunter Mtn and have skied most everything in the east & Canada and I believe that you will be hard pressed to find one pair of skiis that will do everything comfortable enough that you’re going to enjoy skiing. I too try & get out west each year (I live in Atlanta now ….go figure). That being said my 1st pair of skiis were a pair of Blizzards that were 203cm. I loved them although you needed to make a reservation to make a turn in them but they were great, until I purchased a pair of Salomon XScreams at 180cm (I later bought my ski friend’s XScreams 170 cm which where even better to ski on for me) and I have never looked backed. Good luck I sympathize with you since new gear coming out each year makes it difficult to decide what to buy! Ski HARD Dude!

Spanitz,
My wife is about your size and she skis on 154 Salomons which she loves. The Blizzards sound like they'd be great for the East and on-piste in the West, but on a powder day you may want to demo. Also, since you're travelling to the West, you might just want to rent premium skis or demo, and only take your boots on the trip. Baggage costs can get pretty prohibitive these days and doing a demo in a familiar boot will give you a great point of reference. Could be a good chance to try some new stuff before you buy the second pair for the quiver. Happy Trails!
