"Lott says he thinks that beneath Cheney's 'nice, quiet, mature' exterior, there has always lurked a hidden personality. The Republican Senate leader claims to have caught a glimpse of it during a Jackson Hole, Wyo., ski outing the two men took with their wives. The dapper Lott was somewhat taken aback by Cheney's attire: jeans, 'a dirty scarf and this ugly old coat.'
"As the others eyed a 'very steep' ski run, Lott remembers Cheney taking off 'like a bat.'
"'All I could see was that dirty red scarf flapping down the mountain,' Lott says. 'And I thought: This is the real Dick Cheney. He's a very aggressive, competitive skier. That probably tells you a lot about what he's like inside.' " (Taken from USA Today.com's article "Cheney was obvious choice, colleagues say.")

From ABC News:
"ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, speaking at a ski lodge in New Hampshire, told voters she learned how to ski in the Granite State.
'"I would just get to the top and I would just go straight down. I never took a lesson. I thought I was a great skier because I was just rolling down that hill," Clinton said. "And then I realized this wasn't exactly what was going to work for me going forward. So, I started to slow down."
"Clinton made fun of her skills on the slopes, saying, "I didn't get very much further advanced, other than trying to keep myself vertical."'

Skiing is a big part of Alaska U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski’s family life. Born and raised in Alaska, Lisa has raised her two sons Matt and Nic on the slopes of Alaska free skiing and downhill racing. Husband Verne is also an avid skier and frequently volunteers at Alyeska Ski Club events from gate keeping to slipping courses. As Alaska’s first female U.S. Senator, Lisa also rips a beautiful line where ever she skis. From fresh pow to spring corn this Senator knows how to ski.
Lisa lives with a love and passion for Alaska’s great outdoors. Her family hiked the Chilkoot Pass for her 50th birthday and frequently hikes in the summer in their hometown of Girdwood, Alaska, which is the home of Alyeska Ski Resort, the host of the U.S. National Downhill Championships next spring.
