Burly Backpacks
Day Tour Packs: Backcountry Access Squall
Photo: Clay Ellis

1,647 cu. in.; 1 lb., 14 oz.

$57; http://www.backcountryaccess.com/english/home/home.php target=_blank>bcaccess.com

(Killer Deal) A flip top opens wide for easy access to a main pocket as well as an outer chamber with dedicated probe and shovel-handle sleeves. The main pocket¿s cinchable nylon throat helps contain your layers, food, and water when the flip top is open; keep it closed and use the zippered flap on the back panel for quick access. Skis can be carried diagonally or A-frame-style. Gripes: An internal hydration-reservoir pocket would be nice. Props: The lightest and least expensive daypack here.
