Inside the Sun valley forest fire—and skiing its aftermath. What happened when fire ravaged 50,000 acres around Sun Valley, Idaho, in August 2007? No lives or houses were lost. But a swath of steep, north-facing backcountry terrain became instantly gladed and skiable. With a little help from Sun Valley Heli Ski Guides, locals Zach and Reggie Crist—who were forced to evacuate their homes during the fire—explored the newly altered terrain. Here’s what they found.
