DIY: Fix a Core Shot
Step 2
Photo: George Retseck

Preheat the gouge by waving the hot soldering iron millimeters over it. Quickly set the P-tex along the length of the slice and use the iron to "pull" melted P-tex into the wound. Be sure you have adequate ventilation and avoid breathing the fumes. Use as little P-tex as possible and don't overwork it. Otherwise it'll get too hot, create bubbles, and pull away from the ski. Let it cool for at least 15 minutes. Metal Grip should sit for at least an hour.

Quick Tip: For extra-wide core shots, heat the tip of the P-tex with the iron to soften it, then quickly mash that heated part into the wound. Melt in the rest of the P-tex.
