On the weekend of October 28th, Powder mountain reported 42”. That was more than enough to convince Julian Carr, Parker Cook and Andy Harman to go lay first tracks of the season.
Let’s just say the October storm caught everyone a little off gaurd and no one quite had their “program” dialed. 8 A.M. turned to 10 A.M. Then ten o'clock turned to eleven. By the time we rolled out of Salt Lake at noon we each had stories to share of scrapping together a loose combination of gear. Mismatched boots & liners, no footbeds, dead batteries in beacons, where the hell did my backpack go? anyone have extra skis? But no one seemed to mind the late go, after all it is October, there’s 42” on the ground and to ice the cake, it’s a perfect Utah blue bird day.
