We went to Japan to basically see two things,” Fisher said. “We had heard that the culture was amazing, and we knew that the skiing was incredible.”
The casual plan was to head north along the coast and to split time between the backcountry and resorts. “We wanted to travel and find roadside areas to skin and hike, and sleds in some spots. There’s not a lot of people in the backcountry,” Fisher said.
"We flew in and out of Sapporo. On the front end, we spent two nights in Sapporo. The first day we drove north along the coast and did some ski touring. We went night skiing at Niseko Village and at Niseko Grand Hirafu," he says.
