At the X Games, athletes are judged on the height and difficulty of their tricks. But at the second annual Jon Olsson Super Sessions, the challenge is interdisciplinary. For starters, it’s a team event, and each team is made up of two skiers, a photographer, and two cinematographers. After two weeks, a panel of judges selects the team that produced the best photos and film segments. This year, Olsson made it an Olympiad with seven teams from seven countries, including the U.S., Sweden, and New Zealand. The contest began last March on two perfectly built jumps in Trysil, Norway. After a week, everyone bussed it to Åre, Sweden, for another week of jumps and shooting. It would have been the perfect event. Only it went down under mayonnaise-colored skies. Out of 14 days, just one and a half were sunny. “Last year we had some amazing weather and everybody got the same shots,” says Team Sweden photographer Mattias Fredriksson, whose photos are shown here. “But even with bad weather this year, the final results, especially the films, were way stronger.” The winner? Team Norway. Check out all the videos here. —Paul Sliker
