Story by Bill Wanrooy of Untracked Guides.
We're at K3 Cat Ski, a backcountry cat-skiing outfitter based out of Sicamous, British Columbia, not far from Revelstoke. “We received nine centimeters of fresh snow overnight and will be heading to South Park to find some fresh tracks,” explains guide Karl Salter. As the snowcat comes to a stop in the South Park portion of K3 Cat Ski's tenure, guests climb out with their mouths gaping open. In the land of steep trees, South Park is truly a visual treat. Acres of steep burnt trees allow skiers to scope lines that wouldn't be visible in a traditional forest.
