Ligare and his crew didn't return home to the comforts of civilization every night either. They camped. By using snowmobiles Ligare and crew were able to travel deep into the backcountry outside of Valdez. "You can get into zones that helicopters can't fly in," states Ligare. "All the glaciers are open to sled travel."
