Las Lenas opened this year on July 4 with some snow, but with hope for higher snowfall than last season. “Last year, Lenas experienced low snow conditions, but I do not anticipate that again and look forward to having much better conditions this year,” said pro freeskier Elyse Saugstad, who will be coaching a freeskiing camp at Lenas in August. “Lenas just opened and it sounds like the winter train has arrived and is moving right along.”
But snow is not the only factor that might inhibit skiers going to Las Lenas—flights are now the main problem. “Our camp organizer has been busy dealing with cancelling flights due to ash from the Puyehue volcano,” said Saugstad. “We’re scheduled for mid-August and hoping everything will be settled by then.”
