Top Five Pocket Snacks For Skiers
Best of the Worst: PayDay
Photo: Jess Higgins Kelley, MNT

You could spend hours in the candy aisle trying to decide which is the least toxic option for a pipe-side snack, so let us save you some time: it’s PayDay. The main ingredient is actually a food, peanuts, while the main ingredient in most others is sugar. Payday has only eleven ingredients versus the mini paragraph of chemicals its other gas station mates boast. The PayDay bar has no hydrogenated oils, no preservatives, and no artificial ingredients. Sure, it contains corn syrup but not the high fructose version, and it packs 7 grams of protein. Peanuts— no hazelnut, mind you— provide resveratrol, the phenolic antioxidant also found in red grapes and red wine. Assuredly not worth passing on a hearty glass of cab with your après steak dinner, but an option. Cost: $1.99. Calories: 240 calories.
