The 2010 Whistler Olympics were, understandably, a seminal couple of days in Britt Janyk’s skiing career. “I raced in my hometown on my home hill in front of a home crowd. I will never forget the feelings and emotions I had on the days that I competed,” she says. “I’ll always carry that with me.” Janyk, who has been on the Canadian Team since 1996, was 6th in Downhill at the Whistler Olympics, the highest any of the Canadian women placed. She also placed 17th in Super G and 25th in Giant Slalom. She’s also the older stateswoman and role model for the young and relatively inexperienced Canadian team. She was the 2010 Canadian champion in both Downhill and Giant Slalom. This year she’s racing Downhill and Super G on the World Cup Circuit with the goal of medaling at World Championships in Garmisch Partenkarchen. Now, she says, she’s starting to look to the future and what will happen after her racing career. “Long term for me is to find something else that I love just as much as skiing. I will most likely race another season or two and then I hope to move on to another adventure. I'm not sure what that is just yet.”
