BORMIO, Italy, Dec. 28, 2003 (AP) -- A team skiing event most likely will be introduced at the 2005 alpine world championships.
The Nations Cup will be part of the next worlds in Bormio provided the international ski federation approves the competition at its May meeting in Miami.
"If the experiment turns out to be a winner, it could be introduced as an Olympic discipline in 2010," federation president Gian Franco Kasper said.
The event will consist of two men and two women from each team competing in one super giant slalom run and one slalom run each. A point system will determine the winning nation after the total of eight runs for each team.
The event will be held on the final day of the worlds. It will represent the 11th set of medals handed out following five men's and five women's individual events.
Team skiing competitions have been held before, with the Alpen Cup at Val d'Isere in the 1960s and the Skiing World Series in North America more recently.
