Atomic Cloud Eight (2014)
The Cloud 8 is virtually indistinguishable from the Cloud 9, except that it's slightly softer flexing in addition to selling for about $100 less at most shops. As with the 9, its target skier is a relaxed cruiser who rarely ventures off-trail. The Cloud series of women's skis comprises a trio of ultra-value priced models from Atomic. All have soft, lightweight foam cores instead of stiffer, more durable wood. All are sold as systems (with bindings). All are rockered in the tip only, to smooth out terrain shocks and soften turn initiations. Women-specific design features include a V-shaped tapering of the sidecut (the narrower tail is easy to break free and skid at the end of the turn) and a slight lifting of the heel designed to reduce back strain and better suit a woman's physiology.
