The new Convert is part of Black Diamond's Freetour series of skis designed to be efficient on the way up and still plenty fun on the way down. The Convert uses a mix of carbon and fiberglass laminates, a paulownia wood core, and thinner sidewalls to find the balance between weight and downhill performance. With its generous tip-and-tail rocker and 105-mm waist, it's intended to float in the powder but maintain versatility in mixed conditions. Metal tabs on the ski's tail improve compatibility with climbing skins. Like all BD skis - except in the Tour series - the Verdict is built with the company's 3D CNC wood core - a milling technique that reduces weight without sacrificing performance. All of Black Diamond's skis are being built in a new, state-of-the-art, company-owned factory in China.
