The Spectrum 115 ALU is the second-widest ski Elan makes, at 115 mm. Only the Boomerang, a powder-jib ski in the Freeski/Park collection, is wider, at 119. Elan's new Spectrum series includes five models of powder and soft-snow skis ranging in width from 115 mm down to 95, all incorporating Elan's Amphibio rocker/camber technology. Higher end models are fully featured and higher performing; lower end models are more forgiving and less expensive. Elan spreads its unique Amphibio technology, now in its third year, throughout its 2013-14 line, employing it in waists as wide as 115 mm (in the Spectrum fat-ski series) to as narrow as 69 mm (race series). Amphibio skis are optimized to be right- and left-foot specific, designed so that they'll always be edgier on the outside (downhill) ski, where power and solidity is most needed, looser and easier to feather on the inside ski, for easy line adjustment. The inside edge of each ski is fully cambered, for maximum effective edge length. The outside edge is tip-rockered, so it's more buoyant and easier to pivot, with a shorter effective edge. Elan further enhances outside-ski edging power with strategically shaped laminates over the inside edge - elongated crescents running from tip to tail, widest underfoot. There's an AluBlade version using vibration-dampening metal, and a Power Spine version using carbon/glass laminate. All Spectrum series skis are wood-core laminate constructions with Elan's SST sidewalls, which are angled inward at the top for moderate edginess and to withstand abuse from the opposing ski's edge. The top models (115 ALU, 105 ALU and 95 ALU) all feature ALUblade reinforcement of the inside edge, for maximum edge power. Lower end models (105 and 95) do not, so as to be more forgiving (and less expensive).
