K2 A.M.P. Rictor 82XTi (2014)

K2 A.M.P. Rictor 82XTi (2014)
Official Selection 2014
Tester's Review

More than a few testers noted the ease with which this ski ripped. “You don’t have to make it do anything,” said one. “Just think it.” It’s so damp and quiet, you can pin the needle without worrying about any instability or chatter whatsoever. Locked-in, high-speed carving is its M.O., but a nice dose of tip rocker enhances groomed-snow maneuverability. It will dabble off-piste but prefers to charge firm, steep fall lines. “I could ski this all day without getting tired.”

Skiing's Notes:
Like the Rictor 90, the 82 returns with the Rictor name but is an all-new construction. Where the 90 edges into soft-snow-optimized freeride performance, the narrower 80 is more closely related to the AMP series of hard-snow, frontside generalists. It's a wood-core (aspen/paulownia) metal-laminate Hybritech construction (sturdy vertical sidewall underfoot for edge grip, lightweight cap fore and aft for supple flex). It's sold either flat (no binding) or as a system with a 12-DIN Marker/K2 MXC binding. K2's All-Terrain Rocker combines 70 percent camber with 30 percent tip/shovel rocker to smooth the ride, enhance forgiveness and improve soft-snow flotation. ROX technology combines forgiveness of tip rocker with performance-enhancing Mod Technology (an independently acting secondary core, raised above the topsheet, works in conjunction with strategically placed vibration dampening module to lessen vibrations and improve edge grip) and adds extra carbon-fiber reinforcement placed so as to stiffen torsional rigidity
