Salomon X-Max 110 W (2014)
Super-comfortable but with tons of toe and forefoot room and a snug heel/ankle zone that created set-it-and-forget-it fit in the lower. The cuff sits tall and upright along the shin, testers said, setting them up for long-legged arcs and all-day quad comfort. The boot is tall enough to be supportive but with an open-flared shell and liner cuff that handled ample calves perfectly. On top of that, the cuff circumference is adjustable. That’s not a common combo in a narrow-to-medium width, expert-level, all-mountain ride. Add to all of that goodness the fact that the 360 Custom Shell technology allows the entire lower boot and portions of the cuff to auto-mold to the shape of the skier's foot and leg. Testers who submitted to the custom molding process said it fine-tuned fit and helped adjust the boot’s geometry to match their stance. Testers said the boot was softer than most 110's, so lighter skiers should not be frightened off.
