Stöckli Y 85 (2014)
The 85, with its 85-mm waist width, is the widest ski in the Y series of broad-tipped all-mountain skis. It's designed to offer extra flotation off-trail, while still carving with authority on resort groomers. The unique Y Series comprises three models, all built with an oversized, rockered tip for maximum flotation in soft snow and easy turn initiation. The target skier is intermediate to advanced, and likely to spend some time off trail as well as on. All three models (72-, 77-, and 85-mm waists) are wood-core constructions (for responsiveness and snap). All have metal laminates for quiet performance at speed. They're higher performing than the skis in the Spirit collection, though not as demanding as the skis in the Laser series. Stockli Skis, now 75 years old and under its third generation of family ownership, is based in Wohusen, Switzerland, near Lucerne.
