Each ski in Volkl's touring collection features a multi-layer wood core designed to be lighter than alpine models of similar dimensions. Dense ash is used for screw retention and stiffness in the binding area, while poplar is used elsewhere to allow for flex. The same skin system is also used across the collection. It consists of a skin precut to each specific model that attaches via a hole at the ski's tip. The Volkl Nunataq is the collection's widest model and features "extended low-profile" rocker. It's designed to float in powder and manage hardpack, if it encounters any of the latter.
