The Nunataq is built for AT freeriders who don't want to sacrifice downhill performance to save weight on the ascent. It's 107-mm width and subtle tip-to-tail rocker are designed to give it the flotation and surfiness that powder skiers love. It belongs to Volkl's Backcountry series of AT skis, which are built to be lightweight. Backcountry models range in width from the Nunataq (same width as the Volkl Gotama, at 107 mm) down to the slender Inuk (83 mm). Wider models (Nunataq and Nanuk) are optimized for downhill performance, while narrower ones are built for uphill speed and fitness touring. Camber profiles include full rocker in the case of the Nunataq, tip rocker in the Nanuq and Inuk, and full camber in the Amaruq. All are metal-free, full-wood-core constructions; to save weight, Volkl mills channels in the cores and leaves them empty. All models are compatible with Volkl's proprietary skin system: The tips are specially notched for easy and secure attachment.
