K2 Apache Recon (2008)
Damp and stable with a giant sweet spot, the Recon is the most user-friendly ski in the category. Point it and it adapts to any terrain, moving from short to long turns with nary a hiccup.
Props
Accommodates a wide range of skier types. Lets you turn off your brain—which is fun, as long as you’re not BASE jumping.
Gripes
Lacks energy. And the 78-millimeter waist is skinny for a big powder day.
Tester's Take
"This is the best East Coast ski ever." —Greg "Aldo" Peruzzi
