Do you take the other ski off and walk back up to get tyour lost ski or leave it on and go up sideways to get it?

Leave your other ski on. Use it to move around, it will keep you from sinking. Make sure your stomach is facing the slope. When you get to your ejected ski, tamp the snow down so you can stand and have a place to set the offending twig.

If the snow is really deep and light. Stick the ski in at a 90 degree to the slope up to the rear binding. Like you are planting a flag. You can sit down and put the ski that is still on in the same way. You should be looking straight down the slope. Clean off your binding and click in.

write your phone number on your skis, and use powder cords. if it's shallow, take the remaining ski off and hike back up...if it's deep, leave it on.
first step is if you lose a ski... fall. often we try to make a turn or two after dropping the ski and that only increases the climb time to get to the lost ski. Probably easier to just kick off the second ski and do a sort of crawl climb up to the lost ski. Super steep stamp out a compacted area and put the down hill ski on first and then do the uphill ski , both flat and across the fall line. You can use the one ski tail first vertical in the snow if you only lose one and don't have to climb. One other note here, in powder the rule is always be first, and in this case your kind and caring bud will pick up your lost ski for you and bring it down. or they will just blow by laughing as you climb up to your ski.

If its not to deep and steep keep your other ski on. If you think it would be easier remove the ski. Regardless, when it becomes time to put the skis on put the downhill ski on while standing across the fall line. If the downhill one is on you'll have a platform to stand on. Place the ski tail in the snow at a 45 degree angle and step into the ski. If the snow is really deep you might have to mat down the snow a little or slide down and put on where you were standing on your other ski. Place at 45 degree angle and step in. I got this info from Scott Schmidt and it works all the time. Definitely have your name on your ski for several reasons. Lost, won't get stolen on purpose or mistake.
