Boreal Snow Gun
by Molly Baker

Less expected than snow in Palm Springs on the Fourth of July, Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort claims the second resort opening in the country. Only 30 miles from downtown Las Vegas, the beginner run might be sufficient for anxious skiers depleting all of their winter funds at the casinos nearby. Plus, lift tickets are only $20. Reporting a 12 to 18-inch base (comparable to opening bases at Colorado resorts), Rabbit Peak Run, which includes a beginner park, will be open from 9 to 4 p.m. starting today.

Boreal opens its lifts Friday, as the earliest opening date on record and the first resort in California. For $30, adults can access the park and one run off the Castle Peak Quad Lift. Until winter makes a more permanent arrival, the resort will only be open Fridays, Saturday, and Sundays. Lessons, rentals, and food will all be available for the opening weekend.
