Powder Alert: 10-Day Outlook

The Stormchaser gives us good news: More snow is coming our way.
Powder Report

Light snow is continuing over southern Colorado, however with southerly winds the ski areas are only going to get 3-7 inches. If the winds shifted to the southwest or north you would see heavier amounts. Even Taos, New Mexico, is reporting very light amounts. The good news for the Rockies is a series of storms beginning this weekend and again late next week.

Snow will break out with the passage of a cold front in the Sierra on Friday night and Saturday with 4-8 inches possible at most of the northern California resorts. In Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming  snow will begin late Saturday and continue into Sunday (Targhee, Jackson Hole, Snowbasin, Canyons, Alta). Colorado will start to see snow on Sunday which should continue into Monday (Steamboat, Vail, Breckenridge, Winter Park, Aspen) This event will be good for 7-11 inches at most locations favoring the northern and central mountains. Telluride will still see snow with the cold front passage later on Sunday. Temperatures will drop sharply with this system so orographics may play a role on how much dumpage occurs. Steamboat and Vail are particularly good players on this type of flow.

Long term? Here's the good news:  Light snow is possible on Wednesday or Thursday next week however a hint of a large swatch of moisture might move in for next weekend through early the following week so if you are thinking about the chase for next weekend it looks like a decent bet.
