The Bierstube

Packed by four every afternoon, The Bierstube (or just "The 'Stube") is the premiere après scene in all of Whitefish.
posted: 05/26/2010
Busch tastes best (OK, better) when it's free, and the NASCAR nectar flows gratis on Wednesdays starting at 5:30 P.M. That's because Big Mountain's ski patrol donates a keg in honor of the Dumbass of the Week. While visitors munch on $6 platters of deep-fried finger foods, patrollers present Frabert, a toy monkey mascot, to instructors who lost their clients, lifties who crashed snowmobiles, or bar patrons who left their cars running in the parking lot all night. After a few hours at the 'Stube, you may find yourself in similar territory. (3896 Big Mountain Road; 406-862-1993)

The Bierstube, Whitefish
Whitefish’s number-one après bar is The Bierstube, known to locals as “The ’Stube.” Located in the upper village at the resort, this timber-lodge bar is usually packed by four each afternoon with patrons spilling out onto the patio during the spring. You’ll encounter a good mix of locals and rowdy Calgarian tourists, while you sway to local rock and blues band on the small stage. Every Wednesday at 5:30, stop by for a free beer and the Frabert Clod of the Week Award, given to the mountain employee or visitor who’s committed the biggest blunder in the past seven days. And if you’re a first-timer, be sure to ask for your complimentary souvenir ring.
