Steep and deep. The most recent storm brought more than 6 feet to Sugar Bowl and it's still snowing.

Even though there’s a relatively new Mt. Judah Lodge at Sugar Bowl’s base, the place still oozes history. It opened in 1939 with help from Walt Disney and they still operate a 1950s-style gondola. Thanks to its location on Donner Summit, Sugar Bowl is the first big ski resort you’ll hit if you’re driving I-80 from San Francisco. The best places to ski? For experts, take the Mount Lincoln chair to the Palisades for chutes and powdery cliff bands. For intermediates, stick to the Mt. Judah Express or take laps on Christmas Tree. www.sugarbowl.com
