SAUZE D'OULX, Italy March 14, 2004 (AP) - Finland's Janne Lathela won the men's moguls and Norway's Kari Traa captured the women's event Sunday on the closing day of the World Cup freestyle finals.
Lathela totaled 27.22 points to beat Pierre-Alexandre Rousseau of Canada and David Babic of the United States in the moguls final in the Italian Alps. Lathela won for the fifth time this season to take the specialty title with 891 points.
The United States placed six skiers in the top 10 in the moguls standings: Toby Dawson (second), Jeremy Bloom (third), Travis Cabral (fourth), Nathan Roberts (fifth), David Babic (seventh) and Luke Westerlund (eighth).
Canada's Steve Omischl had already clinched the overall freestyle title, edging France's Mathias Wecxsteen.
Traa won the women's moguls ahead of Hannah Kearney of the United States. Traa edged France's Marie Maryinod for the overall title, 103.79 to 100.00 points. The Norwegian finished second to Canada's Jennifer Heil in the 14-round moguls standings _ 867 to 940 points. Heil placed fifth, behind American Laurel Shanley in Sunday's final.
