26th Annual Lake Placid Loppet

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - The 26th annual Lake Placid Loppet, presented by HighPeaks Cyclery, cross-country ski races will be held Saturday, February 9 atthe Olympic Sports Complex Cross Country Ski Center.

The Lake Placid Loppet has established itself as one of the best events ofits kind in the country. Over the past 26 years, thousands of skiers haveenjoyed skiing and racing on the challenging Mt. Van Hoevenberg trails atthe Olympic Sports Complex. The Lake Placid Loppet is a proud member of theAmerican Ski Marathon Series.

This annual event, presented by High Peaks Cyclery in Lake Placid, attractshundreds of skiers from across the United States and Canada. It consists ofa 50 kilometer Loppet (30.1 miles) and a 25-kilometer Kort-Loppet (about 15miles).

There will be classic technique and free technique race starts for both the25K and 50K races. On race day, Feb. 9, bib pick-up runs from 7 a.m. until8:30 a.m. There is no race day registration. The 50K classic technique racebegins at 9 a.m. followed by the 25K classic race at 9:15 a.m. The 50K freetechnique race starts at 10 a.m. and the 25K free technique race will followat 10:15 a.m.

Each finisher will receive a commemorative pin, gold for the Loppet andsilver for the Kort-Loppet. There will be an awards banquet at the LussiRink in the Olympic Center, set to kick-off at 3 p.m. with a pasta dinnerand awards presentation.

This year's event includes a free 10K (6.2 miles) fun race on Friday, Feb. 8at 3 p.m. that is open to all skiers. All interested competitors canregister on-site. Late registration and bib pickup will run from 3 p.m. to 8p.m. in the cross-country lodge with complimentary beverages and horsd'oeuvres. There is a free .5K (less than ¿ mile) kids race (ages 12 andunder) set to get underway at 6:30 p.m. outside the cross-country lodgewhile the "Waxing for Race Day" clinic is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. All Fridayevents are supported by High Peaks Cyclery.
