Considering college? Have we got a program for you: You'll ski all winter while holding down a coveted ski-area job, and in the off season, you"ll take cush-sounding classes like "adventure recreation" or "leisure facilities management." After a few years of such, um, torment, you'll earn an associate's or bachelor's degree in business management and be on your way toward running your own ski area. Two Eastern ski areas are participating. Sunday River's program is offered through the University of New Hampshire's College of Lifelong Learning ($744 per course). The Killington-based program, set to start in the fall of 2001, is run through Green Mountain College, which is leasing space near the base of the access road (approximately $22,700 annual tuition, including room and board). These programs truly benefit all parties. Not only do they open career doors for you, but the colleges get tuition dollars and the ski areas get motivated employees willing to work for peanuts. Long live skiing commerce!
