Durango, CO - Athletes from around the region will converge on Durango to test their might June 11 for the 5th annual AdventureXstream adventure race series. Participants will traverse a 60-mile or 100-mile course in disciplines including mountain biking, kayaking, trail running and tyrolean traverse.
Weekend warriors and expert adventurers alike will challenge mind, body, and fellow competitors as they tackle the varied terrain of the San Juan Mountains. Two courses, 12 and 24 hours, offer solo, two-person and four-person teams the option to customize their race experience. Both courses begin and end at Purgatory Mountain with more than 3200-feet in elevation gain. Athletes' chameleon abilities are tested as X-Events are determined by the course and terrain, and information is given out on a gear-need basis.
"We are excited to be returning to Durango Mountain Resort again this year," says Will Newcomer, Race Director. "Purgatory and the surrounding area is an ideal place for a challenging adventure race given its rugged terrain, multi-sport options, world class mountain biking and natural beauty."
Each year competitors from around the country compete in this skyrocketing sports challenge. This year the race is expecting an equally unique field of athletes with the competition already 90 percent filled. Entry fee for the Durango AdventureXstream is $175 per person for the 12-hour course and $250 for the 24-hour course and includes use of AIRE Tomcat tandem kayaks for each 2 and 4-person team.
The AdventureXstream is a five race series with events in Durango, Breckenridge, Moab and Vail. Series champions are awarded qualifying spots into the Xstream Expedition, the 300+ mile season finale adventure race in Moab, October 6-10.
