Winter Park, CO, Dec. 10, 2000--Veteran Jillian Vogtli (Ellicotville, NY) took advantage of sunny weather Sunday and powered her way to victory in dual moguls at the inaugural Captain Morgan Freestyle Adventure contest at Winter Park Resort. In the men's duel, Stephane Rochon of Canada defeated 1998 Olympic moguls champion Jonny Moseley (Tiburon, CA), who is making a comeback after two years away from the sport.

ESPN2 will broadcast coverage of the duals skiing Dec. 22 at 1:30 p.m. EST.

Vogtli knocked off fellow U.S. Ski Team athlete Hannah Hardaway (Moultonborough, NH) in the final match-up of the day. Finishing third was Kari Traa of Norway, who edged Finland's Minna Karhu.

In the men's event, Rochon defeated Moseley in the sun-splashed final with Garth Hager (Bothell, WA) beating another Canadian, Pierre-Alexandre Rousseau for third place.

Moseley said going into the weekend he was pleased to be back skiing "and I just need some additional time to get my feet under me."He underwent shoulder surgery in the spring, which trimmed his preseason training. He figures he's about a month behind the rest of theSki Team.

"This was very satisfying from a personal standpoint," Vogtli said. "I've been skiing better, starting Friday when she was third behindHardaway in moguls at the Sprint U.S. Freestyle Grand National. it's good to bring it together like this...

"The snow was great. Winter Park's done an incredible job putting it all together this weekend. It's been a lot of fun."

The clear weather was a sharp turn-around from predictions of snow and cold. "I think a lot of people were pretty warm up there,'Vogtli laughed, "because they dressed for bad weather but it wasn't as bad as they predicted."

Vogtli and other members of the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team leave Monday for World Cup moguls action Thursday in Tignes, France. It willbe the first moguls contest of the season since moguls and duals events scheduled for Nov. 25-26 in Tandadalen, Sweden, were victimsof the snow drought and unseasonally warm temperatures in Europe.

The Captain Morgan Freestyle Adventure is an innovative attempt to showcase some non-traditional ski events at three different sites. In addition to Sunday's dual moguls action, the schedule calls for a halfpipe skiing event during the World Cup Jan. 26-28 in SundayRiver, Maine, and a big air contest during the Chevy Truck U.S. Freestyle Championships next March at Waterville Valley, N.H.
