Snow Festival Boasts Over 40 Events, Old and New

Tahoe City, CA - (News Release) - The annual North Lake Tahoe Snow Festival kicks off its 25th year on Friday, March 3, 2006 in grand style with the traditional opening night torchlight parade and fireworks celebration at Squaw Valley USA, followed by ten days of festivities and over 45 unique events at resorts and venues around North Lake Tahoe.

"Young and old, daytime and nighttime, there's something for everyone this year," commented Festival Director Eric Brandt. "For kids and families, there's no end to the fun."

This year's festival, dubbed "Mountain Mardi Gras," is sure to entertain with activities and events for the entire family taking place on and off the snow. Popular events returning this year include the festive Tahoe City and Kings Beach Parades, the Gar Wood's Polar Bear Swim, the Pierce St. Annex Monster Dawg Pull, Sunnyside's Luau, Jake's Mardi Gras party, and the traditional closing event, the River Ranch Snow Sculpture Contest.

Snow Festival welcomes a variety of new events this year. Two major on-snow events are the Vans Tahoe Cup at Northstar, and the FIS Pacific Crest Races at Squaw Valley. Other happenings including several concerts and musical performances, a benefit ski day, a "Mustang Sally benefit sing-a-thon," theater performances, the Stohlgren Brother's great ice cream eating contest, the Missoula Children's Theatre's performance of The Jungle Book, a "Dress Up Your Dog Contest," the "Wilderness Dog Games," the Lake Tahoe School's Children's Science Exploratorium, the Snow Feast & Fiesta, and a special interpretive tour of the newly restored and reopened Olympic Nordic Trails at Sugar Pine Point.

The 25th Annual North Lake Tahoe Snow Festival, a ten-day celebration of winter fun, is scheduled for March 3-12, 2006 and includes numerous events and activities in and around North Lake Tahoe.
