SQUAW VALLEY, CA - (News Release) - With the breathtaking backdrop of Siberia Ridge, the Palisades and Lake Tahoe, Squaw Valley's superpipe is arguably the most beautiful pipe in the country. After 350 hours of construction the superpipe is bigger than ever and ready for action just in time for the 2007 Suzuki Halfpipe Jams. In its 2nd season, the Suzuki Halfpipe Jams hosted competitions at five resorts around the country. The top finishers from each stop won a trip to the finals at Squaw Valley USA, where they will compete against the top four ranking competitors from the Squaw Valley qualifier on Saturday, March 17 for cash, prizes, and a HEAD sponsorship on Sunday, March 18, 2007.
,b>Saturday, March 17 — QUALIFIER
Local skiers and riders can compete in the Suzuki Halfpipe Jams qualifier to vie for a spot in Sunday's finals. Competitors register for from 8:00 - 10:00 am at Dave's Deli at Squaw Valley's base. From 10:00 am -2:30 pm competitors flaunt their grabs, spins, and airs in the Ford Freestyle Superpipe in Mainline Park. Following Saturday's qualifier, competitors and spectators convene at 3 pm for awards including for more than $5,000 in cash and prizes from Head, Columbia Sportswear Company and Yakima at the Suzuki Village (Funitel Base Area).
Sunday, March 18 — FINALS
The winners from the Saturday's qualifier and the previous Suzuki Halfpipe Jams stops compete in the finals in the superpipe in Mainline Park. From 11:15 -12:15 pm skiers and riders compete for Best Trick before the finals. In the finals the most skillful men and women, skiers and snowboarders, compete from 1 - 3:30 pm to take home the prize money and HEAD sponsorship. From 3:30-6:30 pm, following the competition, Bar One in the Olympic House hosts the Suzuki Halfpipe Jams Awards Party.
All Halfpipe Jams, including entry to the competitions, are free and open to the public, however, space is limited. Participants and spectators at the fun-filled events also are invited to enjoy sponsor giveaways and the opportunity to demo Head skis and snowboards in the expo area.
