Puckett Now Gold Standard in Skier X

Advice
posted: 01/01/2000

Aspen, CO Jan. 24, 2004 (ESPN) — Aspen's own Casey Puckett (Old Snowmass, Colo.) had his eyes set on gold and reigning champion Lars Lewen right from the start. Puckett took care of business by knocking off Skier X's top dog to capture gold -- his first-ever medal in Winter X Games VIII competition. I thought about this race and thought I really had a good chance of winning, said Puckett. "It was so amazing because there is so much talent. Lars is so good out of the start. It was exciting that I finally took him on the hill.

Lewen (Stockholm, SWE) got off to a great start, but couldn't keep up with Puckett and had to settle for a silver to go with last year's gold. "I had a great start and thought I had the race, Lewen said. "On the last jump I was so close to hitting Casey in the back. I almost lost concentration. I made small adjustments and couldn?t get back in it.

Reggie Crist (Sun Valley, Idaho) earned his third medal in as many years with a bronze this year. "It was a great race and a tough competition, said Crist. "I will be feeling it (today). Casey and Lars were amazing.
