This weekend’s Teva Mountain Games in Vail started as a local Memorial Day whitewater festival more than 15 years ago. These days it’s morphed into one of the largest multi-sport bonanzas in the country. Despite the addition of extreme fly fishing and dog jumping competitions, the river is still at the heart of the games. Here are the paddling events, people, and potential carnage to look out for.

As part of the Telus World Ski and Snowboard festival in Whistler, photographers from around the world submitted their ski, surf, mountain bike, and skate photos for inclusion in the Olympus Pro Photographer Showdown. The finalists were invited to submit a nine minute slideshow, set to music, of the best images from their life's work. These are a few images from the finalists, as well as Blake Jorgenson's winning presentation.
