Patagonia R2

This fluffy layering piece is so lightweight (12 ounces), I had my doubts about its ability to keep me warm. I shouldn't have worried: It's made of Polartec's techy new Regulator R2 fleece, a high-loft furlike pile that's much warmer than typical midweight fleece. Even on a below-freezing morning, I was comfortable skiing in just a turtleneck and the R2 jacket. When the day warmed up, I discovered its other striking feature: its open-mesh knit, which makes the jacket highly breathable and compressible.
